Emma Watson didn’t speak for A WEEK to help cope with split from Matt Janney

We've heard of giving people the silent treatment when they're miffed off with someone, but never taking a vow of silence against the whole world.

Nevertheless, that's what Emma Watson opted to do just before her "horrible" break up with ex-boyfriend Matt Janney in November 2014.

The actress revealed that she didn't feel happy and wanted to find a way to feel content with herself.

Speaking to Vogue UK, the actress said: "I felt really uncomfortable, even before my relationship ended, I went on a silent retreat, because I really wanted to figure out how to be at home with myself."

The trip saw Emma head to Canada's Rocky Mountains to swear at vow of silence for a week at a special retreat, shortly before her year-long relationship with Matt came to an amicable end.

The actress has since made impressive strides in the acting world by landing the role as Belle in a live-action version of Beauty and the Beast, but also with her commendable work battling for gender equality with her work for the HeForShe campaign.

Earlier this year Emma revealed that one of her dates became "tetchy" and "awkward" when she tried to pay for their meal.
