French fitness blogger, Rebecca Burger, has been tragically killed in a freak accident in her family home. A whipped cream dispenser exploded and hit her in the chest, causing her to have a heart attack.

Rebecca was just 33 years old, and ran a popular fitness and lifestyle blog on Instagram and YouTube, as well as participating in worldwide fitness competitions. She most recently came eighth in the Arnold Classic held in Columbus, Ohio.

Her family released a statement via her Instagram account. They said: "It is with great sadness we announce the death of Rebecca who died the June 18th, 2017 in an accident in the home. The grieving family."

They also posted a picture of the canister which caused her death, urging others not to use them saying: "Tens of thousands of the faulty devices are already in circulation."

The fitness sensation was also a Women's Best ambassador, who posted a tribute to her online saying: "We are sad to have to announce the loss of this wonderful soul. Our French athlete Rebecca Burger died yesterday.

"Rebecca was a great athlete and a kind and generous person with whom to work. Pray for her to rest in peace and for her family to remain strong. We will always be proud of you Rebecca."

There have been warnings by one French consumer group for years about faulty connectors on the gas capsules, which expel at high speed when they break and can cause injuries ranging from broken teeth to multiple fractures.

The government office for consumers issued a warning due to the number of accidents, explaining that these incidents can occur years after use and go back as far as 2010. According to Le Parisien, one manufacturer issued a product recall but only 25,000 were returned of the 160,000 sold.

French magazine *60 Millions * warned of one case where a person lost an eye, but also said that products made since 2015 appear to be safe.

Our thoughts are with Rebecca's family during this terrible time.
