We hate to be the bearers of bad news, but Love Island 2016 winners Nathan Massey and Cara de la Hoyde have confirmed their split on Twitter and we're not even sure the whole concept of love's a realistic prospect any more.

It had been reported over the past few days that the pair 'both mutually agreed to call it quits,' and while we were in absolute denial and refused to believe it both Nathan and Cara have now tweeted to confirm the news. Wah.

Addressing the rumours after he was spotted filming solo TOWIE scenes the other day, Nathan said: "Me and Cara have split, we've had the best summer of our lives but it's been a tough few weeks and wish her the best of luck for the future." Complete with heartbroken emoji.

GAH. Life's so unfair.

Meanwhile Cara tweeted: "Me & nath have split. sometimes love just isn't enough, but what will be will be thankyou for everyone's support lately" and retweeted fellow Love Island pal Olivia Buckland's message saying 'nothing changes' her friendship with the pair of 'beautiful people.'
