This year's The X Factor has been causing all sorts of controversy since pretty much day one.

There was that rumour that the welcome party was just one big orgy, contestants have been caught porking on the stairs of the X Factor house and everyone has been wading in to have their say on Honey G AKA David Cameron in a wig.

And don't even get us started on all the fixing claims.

Now, poor old Ryan Lawrie has found himself at the centre of the latest scandal as he was basically trolled live on air on The Xtra Factor.

Awkwaaaard.

The X Factor judges were taking part in a Q & A when a caller named Michelle rang in and asked Louis Walsh a tricky question.

"My question is for Louis. Last night we saw Ryan perform in a pub for about ten people. Is that going to be the same amount of records he'll sell if he ever releases an album?" she asked.

OUCH.

Louis, who was left with his mouth wide open in shock, eventually managed to formulate a response and said: "I think you're being very unfair."

You tell 'em, Lou.

Ryan's mentor, Nicole Scherzinger, missed the start of the question but quickly jumped to her act's defence.

"Excuse me what did she just say. Why are you even on this show? What sort of question is that?" she interrupted.

"It's not very nice," the former Pussycat Doll continued.

Sticking up for Ryan, who was sat in the audience during the Q & A, she added: "He has a talent and he is a great, great worker and he keeps bouncing back."

This came after Ryan – who had previously gone on a big ol' Twitter rant about his X Factor experience – found himself in the bottom three again.

Ryan took on Sam Lavery in the sing off with a cover of Stop Crying Your Heart Out by Oasis, and narrowly avoided being sent home after the vote went to Deadlock and reverted back to the original public vote.
