We did not see this coming. No, seriously.

So the Great British Bakeoff, beloved of literally every British person in the country with a soul, has just announced its new presenters for the all-new all-singing all-baking series.

Paul Hollywood (as expected), Prue Leith (legend presenter and cookery master), Sandi Toksvig (AAAAAAAH!) and Noel Fielding (curveball).

What a curveball. Sandi, who has been recently smashing it as the QI presenter after Stephen Fry stepped down, was - now we think about it - the obvious choice. Noel Fielding, however, was not. But we just imagined him making innuendos about cakes while wearing a glittery poncho and suddenly it all seems so... right.

This may, however, be a bit too much of a departure for some fans - after its much publicised departure from the BBC over to Channel 4, and the even more much-publicised departure of Mary Berry, Mel and Sue, this could be the icing on the cake, in a bad way.

OR, it could be the best thing ever to happen to the show.

At the moment, the news is being taken fairly divisively.

Some people have just taken to punctuation they're so confused.

But maybe it's best summed up by this succinct tweeter:
