After months of speculation over rumours of a dispute between Jay-Z and Kanye West, Jay-Z has opened up about what happened with his former friend.
Speaking on a podcast, Jay-Z discussed his song “Kill Jay-Z”, which appears to be throwing shade at Kanye.
He was adamant, however, that the song was not a “diss track” - and that he was in fact talking about himself.
But he did say that Kanye had crossed the line by talking about his family on stage during one of his performances.
Jay Z told Rap Radar: “It's not even about Kanye, it really isn't. His name is there, just because it's just the truth of what happened. But the whole point is 'You got hurt because this person was talking about you on a stage.'”
"But what really hurt me was, you can't bring my kids and my wife into it, Kanye's my little brother. He's talked about me 100 times. He made a song called 'Big Brother.'
"We've gotten past bigger issues. But you brought my family into it, now it's a problem with me. That's a real, real problem. And he knows it's a problem."
Jay-Z appears to be referencing a particular 20-minute rant of Kanye’s, in which he said: “Beyonce, I was hurt because I heard that you said you wouldn’t perform unless you won Video of the Year over me and over Hotline Bling. Sometimes we be playing the politics too much and forget who we are just to win.”
He continued: “Jay-Z, call me, bruh. You still ain't called me. Jay-Z, I know you got killers. Please don’t send them at my head. Please call me. Talk to me like a man.”
He also told the crowd Jay-Z’s children and Kanye’s children still hadn’t met.
Jay-Z and West were good friends in the past and have performed together a number of times.
