NOBODY likes getting dumped. Our break-up routine consists of meeting our good friends Ben and Jerry and crying to Adele approximately 527 times.

But imagine if someone breaking your heart was the best thing that ever happened to you? And no, we don’t mean in the cliché way of finding someone better and living your best life – imagine WINNING THE ACTUAL X FACTOR, because you got dumped.

Matt Terry must have been pretty gutted when his girlfriend of three years told him that their relationship was over – two days before his birthday in May.

AWKS. Doesn’t she know that birthdays, Valentine’s Day, Christmas and anniversaries are off the table when it comes to breaking up with people!

Apparently she thought they were holding each other back, and she might have been right considering he just won The X Factor, no biggie.

Matt applied to the show after the split and quit his job at an Italian restaurant, telling The Mirror: "That was the start of everything changing. At the time it was really tough because it was her choice. It’s worked out for the best."

Yeah, we’d say a record deal, international fame and singing with some of your idols on TV every Saturday night is "for the best"!

Matt also revealed that his ex hasn’t tried to get back with him and that she’s sticking by her decision. She supported Matt through the show and wished him luck every week.

We wish all our break-up stories ended like this…

Matt was also forced to deny that he smooched fellow contestant Freddy Parker at The X Factor final – did you see this?

We’re guessing we won’t be seeing Matt on Ex On The Beach anytime soon – the new cast have been announced, and they’re EXPLOSIVE.

One celeb who’s just debuted her FITLORD new boyfriend is Georgia May Foote.
