Erm… This is kinda awkward, but you know we said earlier that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West could be going to prison for recording THAT Taylor Swift tape (you know the ones)? Well, turns out they may in fact have not been breaking the law, meaning they almost definitely won't be.
TBH, the prospect of them rocking orange jumpsuits for three years was pretty darn unlikely even if they had been breaking the law – given that they're, you know, among the richest and most famous celebs on the planet, with money for an infinite number of the world's best lawyers at their fingertips…
In case you missed it, Tay Tay apparently wants to pursue criminal charges against Kimye for recording the telephone conversation that seemingly showed her granting permission for the lyric about her in Kanye's song Famous.
This was because they could have violated something called the California penal code 632, which makes it illegal in the state to record calls without permission from both sides.
BUT this drama is the gift that keeps on giving, and there is YET ANOTHER spanner in the works - they may not actually have been breaking the law at all.
This is according to TMZ (of all people), who claimed that as there were other people in the room and on the phone call, including producer Rick Rubin, Taylor wouldn't be able to sue.
The website says that taping a "confidential communication" without the other party's consent is a crime in California, but it doesn't include conversations that "may be overheard".
TMZ (who have been doing some SERIOUS detective work, can we just say) claimed to have listened to the full tapes of the conversation. They said there is "no doubt" that Taylor was aware she wasn't the only one on the call, as other people speak during the convo.
Seriously, could this story get ANY MORE eventful?!
