At the Venice Film Festival yesterday (5th September),Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne spoke about his role in film The Danish Girl, and the research he undertook to do the character justice.

At the press conference just ahead of the world premiere of the movie (which apparently drew in a 10 minute standing ovation) Eddie told how he met with members of the trans community while researching the role, and that their kindness and support helped him massively.

He said that it was "the most brilliant education. Their kindness and support galvanised me".

The film shows Lili's journey through the 1920s.

Eddie, who wowed movie goers in 2014 with his stunning performance as Stephen Hawkins in* The Theory Of Everything*, has previously spoke about how the trans community have helped him take on this equally challenging role.

    He said:

"People were so kind and generous with their experience, but also so open. Virtually all of the trans men and women I met would say 'Ask me anything.'"

The actor also previously spoke in praise of Caitlyn Jenner’s courage, saying:

"I absolutely salute her courage. Hers is a very specific story, and it's one that shouldn't stand for everybody's. But it is amazing what she's gone through and how she's done it. It's a civil rights movement.”

The Danish Girl is due to hit UK cinemas on January 1, 2016.
