Lady Gaga broke down when recording song about her rape

Diane Warren has opened up about recording emotional track *Til It Happens To You *with Lady Gaga.

The song is about a horrific time when the singer was raped at 19 years old and understandably found it difficult to record.

Speaking about Gaga having to stop halfway through singing, Diane told *People: *“It was very emotional for her. She couldn’t even talk through it at times.

“I had heard she’d gone through this, so I knew she was the right artist. She broke down a few times. She was very emotional doing the song.

“She put her whole heart and soul into it.”

Til It Happens To You was recorded for a new documentary The Hunting Ground which explores rape and rape culture on college campuses.

In the closing credits of her latest video for the song Gaga reminds us that in the US, “One in five college women will be sexually assaulted this year unless something changes.”

The 29-year-old has rarely spoken about her ordeal until more recently.

“I don’t know what I was thinking. I didn’t tell anybody. And I didn’t even tell myself for the longest time," she said.

“And then I was like, ‘You know what? All this drinking and all this nonsense, you have to go to the source, otherwise it just won’t go away.

“It will not go away.”
