Yesterday's news that Liam Payne was embarking on a solo career gave us serious mixed emotions. We were thrilled for him for going at it alone (taking after ladyfriend Cheryl, perhaps?), but we were also BLOODY TERRFIED.

WHAT ABOUT ONE DIRECTION?

The band announced their very ambiguous "hiatus" last year, and many were convinced they'd never actually reform again. BUT WE HAD HOPE.

This hope kinda dwindled yesterday when we saw Liam's DRAMATIC tweet about his solo deal with Capitol Records.

It said: "Happy to have signed to @CapitolUK. They have an amazing history of artists. I hope I can follow in their footsteps."

He then said: "One Direction will always be my home and family but I'm very excited to see what this chapter brings." Which felt ominously like a subtle farewell to us…

Waaaaaahhhhh.

Luckily for our sad, confused hearts, Liam's sister Ruth Gibbins has waded in to reassure us this isn't the end after all.

After he posted the news, she tweeted: "So happy for liam,im biased but hes so talented it would have been a shame for him not to release music for two years!"

A concerned fan (we know how they feel) then asked her: "He's still staying in one direction though right??"

She responded: "Yh, im not sure how a solo career in the band 'hiatus' would affect membership ha."

WOOOOOO!

And if she's not a reliable source, we don't know who is.

She followed up her original tweet with: "I cannot wait to be playing liams music in my car #soexcited." Us too, Ruth, us too.
