One Direction's Louis Tomlinson's given the first interview since the tragic death of his mother Johannah Deakin, revealing she told him to keep going' despite the fact he wanted to 'throw the towel in.'

Louis obviously performed his hit Just Hold On at The X Factor live final just days after his mum's death last year; something which saw him praised by fans, friends and family alike for his bravery.

Talking to SiriusXM, Louis said: "It’s not something that I feel 100 per cent comfortable talking too much about but just quickly, when I first found out the news I kind of did want to throw the towel in.

"But it was my mum who said to me that I’ve just got to keep going, telling me very sternly that she wanted me to. So I’m not doing it for her but."

He added that his X Factor performance seemed like a fitting tribute to his beloved mother, saying: "It was tough, but I felt like it was nice for me to almost have a little send off for her."

This all comes after Louis' manager, mentor and all-round pal Simon Cowell praised said X Factor performance. On the next, he gushed: "Louis, I have to say I’ve known you for six years.

"The bravery of what you’ve done. I respect you as an artist, as a person and your mum was so proud of you and she was so excited for the performance."
