Love Island’s Katie Salmon says she’s inspired young people to come out

Meanwhile, Adam Maxted is still referring to women as dogs

We were totally in love with Love Island this summer.

And while it was undoubtedly wonderful in its trashiness, we also like to think some actual good came out of it.

There was Sophie Gradon's empowering speech about women and sex, a national outcry when Zara Holland was stripped of her Miss GB crown and now Katie Salmon is saying that young people have been inspired to come out because of her.

"I have received many messages of young girls and boys feeling powered to come out to their friends and family after watching me means a lot."

Nice one.

Katie also shared a message from a fan, saying: "@katiesalmon24 you're an inspiration my mate mason was terrified to tell his family he was gay but because of you he came out to his family."

Which is kind of wonderful, isn't it?

Meanwhile, Adam Maxted – with whom Katie took fourth place in Love Island - somehow still seems to think it's OK to compare women to dogs.

"These days if you forget to write back girls won't continue the convo, it's like when you throw a ball for a dog and it doesn't run for it."

During his time on the show, he also compared Katie to a dog looking for a new owner after she and Sophie Gradon ended their coupling.

Look, we know he's styling himself as 'Mr Metaphor' (shudder) but comparing women to dogs is not cool.

Nor is making derogatory 'f*ck and chuck' comments about them, while we're on the subject.

Kady McDermott and Scott Thomas, who came third in the show, are strongly rumoured to be taking part in *Celebrity Big Brother*. Can you even imagine it?
