OK, we probably should have seen it coming. Especially now that these One Direction boys are both fully-fledged solo artists (with lovely music you can listen to right here).
And we’ve been imagining the polite but slightly uncomfortable red carpet encounters they might share when they’re attending a swanky music event for swanky music artists.
But it still doesn’t make this situation less awkward.
Niall Horan and Zayn Malik are up for the same award - and will have to pretend to be happy for each other if one of them wins.
The boys have been nominated for Favourite Breakout Artist and are also up against Alessia Cara, DNCE and The Chainsmokers.
GAHH.
The potential for peek awkwardness is too much.
Will they speak?
Will they congratulate each other?
Will they re-enact their beautiful on-stage chemistry and make us forget the whole Zayn leaving / One Direction hiatus thing ever happened.
Maybe it was just a really, really bad dream?
