The day is finally upon us: will Leonardo DiCaprio get one step closer to fondling a gold man in his rugged hands?
We’re talking, of course, about the Oscar 2016 nominations, which were revealed at 8.30am in LA (lunchtime for us Brits).
With today’s sad news of Alan Rickman’s death, people on Twitter were been calling on the Academy to pay tribute to the legendary actor when it released the list of nominees.
The Academy Awards take place on Sunday 28 February in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Here’s the list of last year’s winners, including Eddie Redmayne’s Best Actor nod for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything.
Eddie’s also been listed in this year's nominations for his role as transgender Lilli in The Danish Girl. He’ll go head-to-head with Leonardo for The Revenant, which many are calling Leo’s best work to date.

"heat couldn't be happier with the Oscar nominations. Among the eight titles nominated for Best Picture, we awarded - or are awarding - five stars to virtually all of them, including The Big Short, Bridge Of Spies, Brooklyn, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Revenant, Room and Spotlight.
There's nothing nominated that we didn't love. In terms of shocks and upsets, Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight has done worse than expected, missing out on Screenplay. I also expected Steve Jobs to get a Screenplay nod for Aaron Sorkin. Films with show-offy dialogue got no love from the voters this year. Critics' darling Carol has also done worse than expected. heat was very mixed on that film.
Looking at Variety's latest predictions published yesterday, they had Johnny Depp in line for a Best Actor nomination for Black Mass. Instead, that nomination went to Matt Damon for The Martian – but that's hardly an upset. They also had The Danish Girl's Alicia Vikander in line for a Best Actress nomination. Her loss is Joy's Jennifer Lawrence's gain. I thought Vikander was more likely to be nominated than her Danish Girl co-star Eddie Redmayne, who did get the nod from the Academy. Go figure.
Tom Hardy, Supporting Actor for The Revenant – not many were predicting that. His inclusion, and The Revenant's 12 nominations overall, puts the film at the front of the pack to win the big awards on Oscar night. The film is simply phenomenal."
