If, like us, your 2003 went by in a massive blur sat in front of the TV memorising the lyrics to The Black Eyed Peas' Where Is The Love? and overdosing on endless re-runs of The Simple Life, occasionally peeling yourself off the sofa to perfect Beyonce's Crazy In Love dance routine, THEN WE'VE GOT SOME LIFE CHANGING NEWS FOR YOU.

Seriously, fans of Paris Hilton's hit show - AKA everyone old enough to remember when Ugg boots were actually a fashion statement (and we're not talking ironically, guys) – are in for a bit of a shock.

Paris Hilton

We've all been living a lie, as Paris has revealed some SHOCKING and UNEXPECTED news / confirmed what we’ve all been thinking for the last decade.

It turns out the Pre-Kardashian queen of reality TV was putting on an act for The Simple Life.

"AN ACT?" we hear you cry.

Yup. Paris has revealed she was playing up to a character on the show.

TBF how many times can one person refer to a RaRa skirt and tank top combo as "that's hot", and really mean it?

Speaking to Access Hollywood, Paris explained: "They said, 'Nicole [Richie you play the trouble maker, Paris you play the ditzy airhead.' We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into or what a huge success it would be and that I'd have to continue playing this character for five years."

YOU HOOKED US IN PARIS.

She continued: "You kind of just get trapped in that character when you have to continue doing it on a TV show.

"I think if I was my serious self on the show it wouldn't have been such a huge success. I don't mind because I feel like I really parlayed it into a huge business and it was a lot of fun."

NGL we had to look up what parlayed meant, so Paris hun, you REALLY had us fooled.

BRB we're off to re-watch seasons 1-6 of The Simple Life to see if we can spot a slip in Paris' wily disguise.

As a tribute to Ms Hilton, we'll be dressed head-to-toe in Juicy Couture velour, obvs.

If Paris says it's still a thing, it's still a thing, OK GUYS?
