Robbie Williams has been open about his struggle with drink, drugs and depression in the past, but his wife Ayda Field has revealed the Angels singer once contemplated suicide at his lowest point.

In a shocking episode of Loose Women, Ayda was prompted to share Robbie's experience in a Lighten The Load segment on the ITV talk show, where fellow panellist Coleen Nolan admitted counselling helped her cope with a tough marriage breakdown.

Ayda told the panel: "There was a moment in his [Robbie's] life when he thought life would end and he couldn't exist any further.

"There is a way to muddle through it and come to the other side. It just takes a lot of strength."

The popstar is obviously in a much better place since her met Ayda almost 10 years ago and became a dad to their two kids, Teddy and Charlton.

But Robbie once confessed his addiction to ecstasy (amongst other things) had brought him so low he could barely function, let alone pursue his passion for music.

He said: "The truth is I've been a depressive. People think that if you're depressed, you're depressed about something. But I'm not. I just feel terrible."

"Depression isn't about, 'Woe is me, my life is this, that and the other,' it's like having the worst flu all day that you just can't kick."

It seems Robbie's love for Ayda and Cameron Diaz are responsible for his new lease on life. That's right: leggy A-lister Cameron.

Ayda said: "A few months into our relationship, we had a break-up. Well we had a couple of break-ups actually.

"He went to the Chateau Marmont and he was talking to Cameron Diaz. She said to him, 'you obviously still love your girlfriend, you need to go back to her'."

Apparently Robbie called Ayda that night and the loved-up couple have never looked back. Long may it last.
