The morning after the annual Met Gala is usually spent dissecting all our favourite celebrities' bold outfit choices, often ending up in fits of hysterics as we imagine re-creating the more daring numbers for our Saturday night at the local pub. And this year was absolutely no exception.
The theme for the most eagerly-anticipated event in the fashion calendar was "Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between" - it's only the second time the event has been centred on a living designer – and focussed on Kawakubo's desire to challenge our ideals of what 'defines beauty, identity and gender.'
Stars such as Rihanna, Katy Perry and Bella Hadid all wowed in their avant-garde creations, while Selena Gomez, Selena Gomez and Kim Kardashian opted for slightly more understated (but still utterly FAB) designs.
However, it was Jaden Smith's choice of accessory/date that really caught our eye. He basically rocked up clutching a handful of his own dreadlocks and now we finally know why.
Was it a deep and meaningful interpretation of the ever-changing boundaries of what we consider 'the norm' in fashion? Or a statement depicting the transient nature of 'beauty, identity and gender'? Perhaps a bold stance against the on-going political uncertainty across the globe?
Nah. It was because his sister Willow Smith couldn't make it.
Speaking to Vogue's André Leon on the red carpet, Jaden explained: "And since I couldn't bring my sister as a date, I brought my old hair."
Yeah, fair enough.
