Sam Smith and Matt Terry

Sam Smith definitely didn't have Money On His Mind when he politely declined Simon Cowell's request to perform with Nicole Scherzinger's X Factor's act Matt Terry - if he manages to get through to the final.

Producers are hoping to hook up the final three with big name talents to perform their duets with. No one will be as good as Alexandra Burke and Beyonce, of course.

And after Matt wowed viewers and judges with his SHAMAZIN performance of James Bond track Writing On The Wall, bosses hoped that Sam Smith would duet with Matt.

A source told Daily Star: "Matt’s best performance of the whole series was singing Writing’s On The Wall. Sam loved his version so it seemed the perfect plan to put them together."

However, despite praising Matt's performance of his song on Twitter, it's been suggested that Sam has no interest in appearing alongside the star in the final - probably because he's still enjoying some much deserved time-off after a manic few years.

"There’s still a slim chance but it doesn’t look like it will happen now," said the source.

Sam himself was papped on a night out with Matt's mentor Nicole Scherzinger last night.

Hmmmmmm, fishy.

Matt Terry was hit with even more controversy recently as it was uncovered that he has a secret musical past.

Matt, 23, used to be in boy band called Far Too Far alongside Marvin Humes's (from JLS, of course) younger brother Jackson Humes.

The source, who knew about Matt's big secret, told The Sun: "Matt has given the impression on the show that it’s his first time experiencing the music industry but it’s simply not true."

"Although Far Too Far never made it big, they did have a loyal fan base and spent a long time working on their career as a group."

Here's hope Sammy will change his mind.
