Former child star Sawyer Sweeten, who played Geoffrey Barone in popular sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, tragically died after he took his own life at home last week.

Now his parents have shared a moving tribute to their son in People magazine. Parents Elizabeth and Jerry Gini described their son as a "beautiful being", saying he "was not some tragic Hollywood kid".

"Sawyer was such a completely amazing boy, which makes what has happened so much more confusing to us as a family... He was incredibly intelligent and had an amazing heart." they told the magazine.

"What happened to our son was not textbook depression. He was happy, upbeat and loving. But in the last week of his life, we saw something happen. It was so rapid in progression that we were caught off-guard."

"Sawyer was not some tragic Hollywood kid who did drugs or became an alcoholic. He did neither. He was a normal young man who loved his Harley Davidson, video games, his pets and especially his family."

At the time of Sawyer's death, his sister Madylin, who also appeared on the hit TV show, announced the news on Facebook and told fans:

"We beg of you to reach out to the ones you love."
