Titanic soundtrack creator James Horner has died in a plane crash

Award-winning Hollywood composer James Horner has died after the light aircraft he was flying crashed.

The musician, 61, was alone in the small aircraft when it dropped out of the sky north of Santa Barbara, California, yesterday.

He was behind the Oscar-winning score for Titanic and co-wrote its lead track, My Heart Will Go On, which was recorded for the film by Celine Dion.

James also worked on the soundtracks for Braveheart, starring Mel Gibson, A Beautiful Mind,* Apollo 13* and the huge box office hit Avatar.

Celine Dion released a statement paying tribute to the talented composer, saying she was “deeply saddened” by his death.

“He will always remain a great composer in our hearts. James played an important part in my career. We will miss him. We offer his family and friends our deepest sympathy,” she added.

More tributes have been flooding in from his friends, family and those who worked with him.

Speaking back in 2009, James told the Los Angeles Times all about his passion for his job.

“When we lose a character, when somebody wins, when somebody loses, when someone disappears - at all times I’m keeping track, constantly, of what the heart is supposed to be feeling. That is my primary role,” he added.
