‘Always the bridesmaid, never the bride’ comes to mind when we think of Leonardo DiCaprio.

The 41 year old has been nominated for the Best Actor Oscar SIX times, and he’s always been pipped to the post. Well not this year.

At last night’s Oscars, Leo won the gong for his role in The Revenant, and beat last year’s winner Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl), plus Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs), Matt Damon (The Martian) and Bryan Cranston (Trumbo).

Leo thanked his “brother and co-star Tom Hardy in his speech, as well as his parents and friends, saying: "I love you dearly".

He also took the opportunity to campaign for the world to do more to combat climate change.

"Climate change is real. It is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.

"We need to support leaders who do not support big corporations, but speak to humanity.

"For our children's children and for those people out there whose voices have been drowned out by the politics of greed.

"Let us not take this planet for granted, I do not take tonight for granted."

Here’s what else happened at last night’s Oscars.
