But it still wasn’t enough to pull in viewers when The X Factor aired last night.
In fact, the amount of people tuning in was so few that the show received its lowest number of opening ratings in TEN YEARS. Crikey.
The ITV show was watched by 6.8million people, but last year 800,000 more tuned in, which is pretty alarming when you consider that Simon has changed everything to stop the viewers from dropping this year.
The music boss changed things up in 2015, ditching his regular judges, hiring new presenters and creating new and nasty rounds to really make contestants sweat.
Last year, Cheryl, Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw were on the judging panel, meanwhile former X Factor star Olly Murs presented the show alongside Caroline Flack.
However viewers were put off by the new set up and ratings dived, so this year Simon was hoping to come back with a bang.
The head judge re-hired Louis Walsh, Nicole Scherzinger and Sharon Osbourne and brought back everyone’s favourite TV presenter Dermot O’Leary for the job.
But for some reason, viewers still weren’t convinced. Ouch.
The show caught 34% of the audience share, compared to last year’s 39%. But in 2005, it premiered to 6.72million people - so we imagine Simon’s not best pleased.
Still, they managed to find some cracking singers on the first show, with talented contestants Christian Burrows, Scot Ryan Lawrie and Honey G impressing the panel.
Let’s just hope they get the airtime they deserve when Strictly Come Dancing returns next month.
Judging by the killer line-up, which includes stars Daisy Lowe, Laura Whitmore and Ed Balls, it’s going to be a tough job keeping up with them.
