We already thought British institution Michael Buerk might stick out slightly compared to his fellow contestants on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, so it’s not really a surprise that he plans to spend his winnings on home insulation rather than anything more glamorous.

The BBC newsreader is said to be the highest paid contestant on the show but doesn’t have any big plans for the money bar the window revamp.

He told The Mirror: “l’ll probably use it for a lot of little things. Things I thought I can't justify - a couple of double glazed windows in the house.”

Still, despite the lure of life’s little luxuries (we’ve never put double glazing in that category before) 68-year-old Michael has admitted that he'll find not being able to drink for three weeks while taking part in the competition difficult.

He revealed he’s already tried to cut back on the booze so that he doesn’t have too many withdrawal symptoms in Australia. "I’m being unusually sensible and have cut back. Nobody who knows me would believe that. My poor liver doesn’t know where it’s going.

“Green tea, God. I’ll be a vegetarian when I come out. I might even take out a subscription to The Guardian, and then where would I be?”

We never knew the respectable newsreader could be so outspoken. Let's hope we'll get to experience more of this side of Michael once he's in the jungle!
