Forget Theresa May announcing another General Election*, we've got some REAL (food based) breaking news for you to get reaaaaaally excited about.
Despite many of us traipsing 8628716271257 miles to our nearest Ikea to pick up all the boring home essentials amd the occasional houseplant, we all know the best thing about Ikea is the MEATBALLS. And the sexy sauce that comes with it. Followed closely by the £1.50 breakfast. And the 50p ice cream.
In fact, Ikea's food is so damn good that 30% of the stores visitors just come to the store for a bite to eat.
And after the roaring success of Ikea's pop-up café, there is talk that they could be launching their very own chain of standalone restaurants in the near future.
Yep, you read that right. All the meatballs could be coming to a town near you veeeery soon.
HOW EXCITING.
Ikea Food's managing director Michael La Cour told Fast Company: "The mere fact that we don’t need so many square feet to do a café or a restaurant makes it interesting by itself.
"I firmly believe there is potential. I hope in a few years our customers will be saying, 'Ikea is a great place to eat—and, by the way, they also sell some furniture.'"
Yaaaaas.
However, don't hold save up all your pennies to splurge on 7161516343 portions of meatballs just yet, because an Ikea Food spokesperson has confirmed to us that 'no decisions on standalone restaurants have been made at this time.'
They said: "IKEA Food is continuously thinking of how to meet the growing interest in food among consumers and find ways to meet them where they are. While we have experimented with new ways of enjoying IKEA food – including through pick-up points and pop up restaurant events in London, Paris and Toronto - no decisions on standalone restaurants have been made at this time."
But we can still hope.
