Even though we will always love Disney with every inch of our hearts, we have to admit that the film's fairy-tale ideals have always been a bit, well, backwards.

We like to think we have moved past all the 'old fashioned' stereotypes and connotations that a lot of the Disney classics include.

IT'S 2017 GUYS!!!!

From Cinderella being saved from a lifetime of cleaning by her shoe-loving Prince Charming to Disney seemingly ignoring the whole LGBT community by always putting straight couples at the forefront of their fairytales - there's definitely a darker side of Disney.

But that's another story for another day because the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast will feature Disney's FIRST EVER gay character and love scene.

LeFou (played by US actor Josh Gad), a sidekick of the film's main antagonist Gaston, will try to come to terms with his feelings for Gaston as a side-plot to the main story.

And Disney are calling it their first ever "exclusively gay moment" on film.

Director Bill Condon revealed to Attitude magazine that he thinks LeFou's role will break new ground when it comes to LGBT 'visibility' on screen.

'It's somebody who's just realising that he has these feelings. And Josh makes something really subtle and delicious out of it," he said.

"And that's what has its pay-off at the end, which I don't want to give away.

"But it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie."

Attitude's editor Matt Cain has also come forward to say that the film, that stars Emma Watson and Dan Stevens as Belle and Gaston, breaks new boundaries.

He told Newsbeat: 'It may have been a long time coming but this is a watershed moment for Disney.

"It's a step in the right direction and I applaud Disney for being brave enough to make it.

"In doing so, it will hopefully help to change attitudes and bring about real social progress."

It's just such a shame it's taken nearly a hundred years, right Disney fans?

*Beauty and the Beast hits UK cinemas on 17th March.
