If there was one film we could live vicariously through, it would definitely be 1987 classic Dirty Dancing.

It makes us swoon, it makes us want to wear crop tops and leg warmers and it makes us realise that we will never get a man as perfect as Patrick Swayze.

And let's not forget the soundtrack, the to-die-for 80s clothes and the now iconic dance moves.

So in news that will delight (or piss off) Dirty Dancing fans, there’s officially going to be a remake and it's going to be veeeery different from the original.

American TV network ABC has confirmed there will be a new TV adaptation of the classic movie with a whole new cast.

In the new extended version, fans can expect to see what happened to lovers Baby and Johnny, played by Jennifer Grey and the late Patrick Swayze, after the film wrapped.

Baby will be played by Little Miss Sunshine actress Abigail Breslin and Will and Grace's Debra Messing has also joined the all-star cast and will be taking on the role of Baby's mum Marjorie Houseman.

Speaking to ABC about the remake, Debra said: "I remember being a kid when it came out and sitting in the movie theater and thinking, 'This is the first time I've actually seen a leading lady who isn't perfect.'

"It was a turning point for me. Like I thought, 'Oh, I'm Jewish and I'm awkward, oh I'm Baby!'."

Debra added that the remake will be incredibly different from the original movie and will explore the characters even further:

"So, you learn a lot more about Baby's mum and Baby's dad, and those dynamics. And you also find out what happens to Baby and Johnny after the original movie ends."

She also revealed that the remake will be 'a tribute' to the late Patrick Swayze, who died in 2009 after battling pancreatic cancer.
