Harry Potter is to the heat office as cosmetic surgery is to the Kardashians.

We tried to deny our love for it but we can't anymore. In fact, we're probably borderline dependent and it keeps us young.

Once every few months we top-up on our HP dosage with a big old binge of all eight movies and we could probably recite the whole script for you (additional scenes included).

But, something major slipped through the net and we're ashamed to admit we completely missed a huge character switch in the series.

It involves Tom the barman and we really can't believe we didn’t notice it.

Basically, if you'll remember in The Philosopher's Stone, a very young Harry Potter pays a visit to wizarding drinking spot, The Leaky Cauldron, with Hagrid.

As they walk in they're greeted by the barman Tom who says: "Ah, Hagrid! Usual, I presume?" and he looks like this:

Quite a friendly old chap with rosy cheeks and mutton chops.

THEN…two years later in The Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry runs away from home after inflating his horrible aunt Marge, hops on the Knight Bus and makes his way to The Leaky Cauldron again.

He's greeted again by Tom (we know it's Tom and not a different character as the Minister For Magic says: "Tom will show you to your room."), but this time he looks like this:

A BALD HUNCHBACK.

JEEZ TOM. What happened to you? Trouble from difficult punters? Had a bad batch of Polyjuice Potion? Get caught up in some dark, dark magic?

The years have NOT been kind to you, sir.

Well it turns out, it's not actually some strange sorcery – the actors actually just changed. The original Tom was played by Derek Deadman, who sadly died in 2014 so perhaps gave up the role for health reasons, while Tom 2.0 is actually actor Jim Tavaré.

In other Harry Potter related news, did you see this AMAZING Harry Potter cast reunion?

And have you heard, you can now buy Polyjuice Potion bubblebaths?

PLUS it turns out 2017 is a pretty big year for all things Hazza P
