Anton Stephans has been accused of fabricating a sob story to further himself on The X Factor.

Over the years, viewers have heard many sad tales from contestants who have burst into tears on camera, warming themselves to the public.

But talent show favourite Anton, 45, has been accused of lying about his troubled childhood after he claimed he was torn apart from his biological family and put into foster care at the age of seven.

He previously said: “Those things in our past that are difficult. I don’t know if you truly heal but you learn to live with them.”

However, a new report claims the singer grew up with his mother Pauline Nelson in South London, and his father Kenneth is furious with his son.

A source told The Sun: “Anton wasn’t adopted, if he was he’d have adopted parents.

“No one knows why he is saying things like that. It’s all rubbish.

“He has been telling stories like this for years and it has finally come back to bite him.”

And it seems this isn’t the only fib Anton has told – he claims he went Marlborough College, the same school as Kate Middleton, and that he has a double first in History and English Language and Literature from Cambridge.

However, the university has no record of the performer ever graduating, according to The Sun.

    Hmmm…
