The likes of Ellie Goulding and Dougie Poynter have been campaigning
You might have to switch up your whole beauty routine soon, 'cause cosmetics containing microbeads are set to be BANNED in the UK by law.
Celebrities such as Ellie Goulding and McFly's Dougie Poynter have been campaigning against the sale of products containing those teeny-tiny plastic beads for a while due to their environmental impact; and now the government's to go ahead with scrapping 'rinse-off' cosmetics from the shelves.
So basically there's mounting evidence which suggests products containing microplastics are damaging marine life; with reports claiming 16-18 tons of nondegradable plastic beads from exfoliating scrubs, shower gels and toothpastes are washed into oceans from the UK alone every year. Not cool, poor fish etc. etc.
The government will introduce the ban later this year, which will no doubt be news to Ellie's ears. She's been backing the campaign for ages.
So there you go. No, we don't want no scrubs...
