The best moisturisers for dry skin in this FREEZING cold weather - under £20

Skin saviours for you

Dry, flaky skin is something of a theme in the cold winter months. Let’s face it, our skin has a lot to contend with at this time of year. If it isn't enough to deal with biting winds, cold fronts and rain, there's the added ‘drunk too much wine-not enough water’ situation. It cracks – literally – under pressure.

But making sure your is skin regularly exfoliated and moisturised will help. There are moisturisers and then there are moisturisers for dry skin. They differ from your regular lotions in a lot of ways so it’s important to know which ones to go for.

Here's a choice of dry, flaky skin saviours…

Let’s start off with something simple here. Can you even remember a time in your life when you didn't know about Vaseline? It costs as little as £3, but let’s face it, you’ll probably have a tub lying around somewhere. It’s 100% petroleum jelly – so you know that you’re not adding anything you shouldn’t to your skin – and it works like a charm. However hard the wind tries, it’ll struggle to penetrate this protective godsend.

Astral Cream

The good old astral cream is having a bit of a revival at the moment after Joanna Lumley told the world that she uses it, and always has done. And if it’s good enough for her, it’s good enough for us. It costs just £7.99 for a large tub, and it honestly lasts A LONG TIME. You just need the smallest amount (although it’s tempting to take a big ol’ handful because it smells divine) and it works on both body and face.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Moisturiser

This light cream doesn’t leave your face feeling heavy afterwards, just nicely refreshed! It will cost you around £12 but Boots often offer it at half price (BARGAIN!). It contains a unique Hyaluronic Gel Matrix to instantly lock in intense hydration and continuously release it as and when your skin needs it throughout the day.

Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturiser

You can’t fault Liz Earles products, especially when it comes to hydration. With its fabulous natural combination of essential fatty acids, avocado oil and natural antioxidant beta-carotene, your skin will be left plump, supple and glowing. At £19.25 you’re paying slightly more than the others but you’re getting a little bit of luxury.

NYX All Over Balm

Have you ever been out and about and caught yourself in the mirror and thought: ‘man, my skin is dry’. Well NYX understands and has developed these teeny-tiny tins for your handbag – costing just £5 – so you can hydrate your skin on the go. The tins come in three varieties – macadamia, coconut and Argan oil - and will soothe skin in no time. Handy hint: it’s also pretty effective as a highlight on the go if you forget your makeup bag.

If nothing else is working, then it’s time for sudocrem. Yes...we know, it is a nappy rash cream but it will undoubtedly sort out all of your cracks, chaps and soreness. At just £2.99, it’s also an absolute bargain. Containing hypoallergenic lanolin, astringent zinc oxide and Peru Balsam the thick cream delivers a lot when your skin is in dire need.
