Ever since the completely devastating news casting a dark, dark shadow over an already bleak 2016 that the Great British Bake Off was leaving the BBC and changing forever, we've pretty much been inconsolable.

Slight exaggeration, but we have been a bit down at the prospect of a lack of Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins' innuendos and Mary Berry fist pumps.

We've kind of come to terms with the fact that GBBO has changed forever, but we're willing to give the guys over at Channel 4 the benefit of the doubt to see what they can come up with for the baking show.

Especially as we've just heard it will be returning to our screens THIS YEAR.

Anyway, Paul Hollywood, who opted to make the move over to Channel 4 has been spotted with a trio of celebrity chefs prompting fans to speculate they could be filming for the GBBO spin-off.

Paul has apparently been seen with Michel Roux Jr (who's hosted Masterchef and Saturday Kitchen), Rachel Allen (off of the Good Food Channel's Market Kitchen) and Michelin-starred chef, Frances Atkins.

Michel Roux Jr

INTERESTING.

These sightings prompted fans to think that Paul had been filming screen tests for the new take on GBBO which will air on Channel 4 at some point this year.

For a while it was thought that the BBC could block GBBO from hitting our screens until 2018, due to contract issues with Love Productions.

BUT it has since been reported that the BBC have backed down and the show has been given the green light.

Speaking to The Sun, a source revealed: "This has been a massive blockage which would have seen the show off air until 2018.

"That could have done real damage to the brand. But most importantly, the fans would have missed out."
