Is THIS the real reason Paul Hollywood won’t leave The Great British Bake Off?

Remember that time when The Great British Bake Off decided it was no longer going to be on the BBC, and then all our hearts shattered and we never thought we’d be the same again because Mary Berry, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins all quit and things were just miserable?

(OK, BREATHE.)

Of course, it will grace our screens once more over the festive period with the Christmas special (WOOOO), and Mary is returning to do some cake judging – but it’ll be across the pond with our American friends.

And the actress from My Big Fat Greek Wedding (random).

But Paul Hollywood decided to stick with the show and will therefore be the only original team member when it returns.

And he hasn’t really spoken about why.

UNTIL NOW.

Appearing on The Jonathan Ross Show, which will air on Saturday 10th, Paul talked about why he decided to stay on the show, despite the barage of hate from Bake Off fans.

He said: "I think ultimately I love The Great British Bake Off and I was very lucky seven years ago to be plucked from obscurity to be part of what Bake Off is now and I love judging, I love baking, I love evangelising about the food, the bread, the cakes…

"My job was still there and I didn’t want to lose my job. I love doing what I do,”

Alright, fine. We understand. If we had a job on Bake Off we’d find it REALLY hard to leave too.

But what is it even going to be like? Are they gonna keep the tent? Who’s gonna be joining Paul? And will they still have contestants multi-tasking as they attempt to bake while pining down their workspace on particularly blustery days?

"The Bake Off won’t change in the sense that the format will stay exactly the same, the tent will stay the same, the challenges and really the bakers [will not change]," Paul confirmed.

HURRAH.

And on the supposed feuding between him and Mary?

"She will always be my TV mother," Paul said.

"Mel and Sue will be my sisters – we are like a dysfunctional family."

A family torn apart too soon :’(

But at least now we know that the tent is going along to Channel 4 to keep Paul company.
