You know how Tesco finally ditched the 5% tampon tax last week, much to the delight of anyone with a brain in their noggin? Well Waitrose has only gone and followed their lead and scrapped it, too.
The chain announced today that it will cut the price of 97 women's sanitary products; removing VAT across both branded and own-brand stock. HALLELUJAH.
Michael Andrews, Director of Buying at Ambient and General Merchandise, said: "By covering the VAT cost and reducing the price by 5%, we are confident it will make a difference to our customers."
Damn right it will, Mr. Director of Buying Person.
This basically means a pack of own brand Waitrose tampons will be reduced from £1.50 to £1.42; a discount that's already in place online.
The UK government's already explained it'd like to scrap the tampon tax, though EU rules currently in place mean the tax mustn't be lower than 5 percent. Bleugh.
